DIY Vintage Book into Fairy Garden

DIY Vintage Book into Fairy Garden-I'm going to show you how to make this super cute and Whimsical fairy garden and an old recycled book. There are several ways to do this project. But I'd like to show you how you can do it with tools that you already have in your house. So here's what you'll need. It. Old hardbound books when they're sicker. It works a lot better and Minds about gardening which makes it kind of fun. You'll need a ruler really sharp. Razor. A pencil T. Gravel charcoal a piece of Thick soil and then your plants and ornaments and things to top dress, your planter when you're all done. So the first thing you're going to do is you're just going to open your book to a spot where it just Falls open nicely. Now. I'm going to measure in from the sides about three quarters of an inch. Make some smarts here.

And then I'm going to just take it in about a half inch from the bindings. So that's my guide for cutting right there. The reason why I use a pencils because I don't want any marker to bleed over into the remaining page that we're going to leave. They're now using the guidelines. We just made. We're going to remove the inside of the pages of the book. We're going to do that using our razor blade. I've seen a lot of people use power tools and things for this part, but not everybody has those just hanging out at their house. So we're just going to use this, it will just need a little bit of patience, but it can be done.

All right. So we've got the inside of the book cut out and don't worry if the inside looks a little bit rough. You won't see it in the end. Next, we're going to want to line the inside. So we'll just pull back, just a few of the pages. And then we're going to put our plastic. And just like that and we'll just push it down in. To the reservoir and then we're just going to add a little bit of charcoal and gravel since it doesn't have drainage. You want a little charcoal to help absorb any smells and the gravel will give the water a little bit of a place to go. Now. We'll put a little bit of soil in and you can use any kind of potting mix. I just happen to have the cactus soil on hand. Now, we can plant I brought an assortment of plants home because I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do, but I know in this size of book, I'll probably only want to do about two plants. So I'll pick two that

Very slightly in color and texture. And now we're going to plant these up.

Okay, but I'm just fold this plastic under. I don't really want to cut it until the very end but kind of tough to see what that sticking up. So just tuck it in there. I also brought a few different fairy garden, ornaments home because I wasn't quite sure what look I wanted, but I think I'm going to go with this cute little fairy here. I think I'm going to want her about like that. Yeah, that'll look good. But I'm going to finish up with the top dress on the soil first and for that I want to use a little bit of moss. Just tuck it in around the plan. Then I think I'm going to use a little bit of a mixture of pea gravel and then I'll make a little pathway, then a little bit of white sand to dress it up a little bit. Make it look a little bit different. These are so fun because you can make them super different. You could do gnomes. You can do fairies. You can do this little bicycles little bunches. You can do whatever you want, or to see the natural. You can do little make yourself a little Bird's nest, anything like that. We would meet. This is just a little bit of orchid bark that I had hanging out and it'll make it look a little bit more natural. Then, a little cute little fairy.

So now that our plan proportions almost done. I'm just going to trim up this plastic. And so what we'll want it to end up being is this one who wanted to be just long enough. To where it can just tuck down in by The Binding here.

And then the pieces around you want to just trim them up. Just so they're right inside the edges of the pages and you can either just lay in there. Most of the time, they'll just stay nice and flat, or you can take them down if you do.

Now, we're With our pages that we took over before the line it back over carefully. So the page is laid a lot better. Once I tape that liner down and then I went ahead and just add a little bit more bark and mop and it is all done. This is such a fun project and it really doesn't take much to make something like this. What a fun project to do with your kids or as a gift for somebody, or as a gift for yourself. Okay. Thanks for watching.
