How do store gladiolus bulbs?
How do store gladiolus bulbs?-About working in my front yard today, little bit of a change of scenery. I'm going to dig up my gladiolus to store for winter because it's supposed to be below freezing tonight. I plan on my glads way in the back corner. So I'm going to squeeze back there to dig him out. There are several bulbs that in our zone 5 climate are considered tender. Meaning they aren't Hardy enough to survive our winter temperatures and for us those are glads dahlias caladiums. Calla lilies begonias and canna lilies and probably forgetting some. There are more but those are the most popular these types of bulbs need to be lifted and stored. In a protected area until the next spring when you can plant them back outside. I'm going to go ahead and go dig up the bulbs and then I'll remove any loose soil. That's around them. A glad bulb is actually called a corm, COR em corn. The best time to lift them is after their foliage has turned brown and died back. Just like with tulips and daffodils. We leave the foliage attached to the bulb until it dies back to give the bulbs ample time to take in nutrients through that foliage. In order to store up energy to bloom successfully the next season after I have all the corms Doug. I'm going to cure them.

You can leave them right on top of the soil for a couple
days to dry. If there isn't any danger of frost or some your somewhere with
good air circulation. I'm going to go ahead and let my dry in the garage. Since
it's supposed to freeze tonight. If you leave yours on top of the soil. You
want to remove any excess dirt. After they've dried a couple of days and then
you'll move them to a fairly warm area for about two weeks or so, so they can
fully cure our garage is insulated. So it stays warm enough to let the columns
both dry and cure in there. Once they have cured, you can separate the corms
glads form a new koromon. Top of last year's. So you'll want to remove any core
melts as well toss the old Quorum and save the newly-formed ones and the corn
was you can dust the constants and antifungal powder before storing if you want
to, I usually skip that step. I store mine in a cardboard box between layers of
newspaper and a dry spot with the cool temperature. Somewhere around 40 degrees.
I'm going to go ahead and store mine in The Root Cellar along with my potatoes,
but lots of people just put them in there veggie bin in the fridge and that
works great too. And if you have a garage that's not insulated. That doesn't
say to warm that works great. It's a super
