How to Build a Planter Fountain

How to Make a Planter Fountain-Hey, everyone, Laura here tonight. I'd like to show you how to create this beautiful waterfall inside of a regular pot. Let's get started. What you'll need for. This project is a pot potting soil, a bucket, a piece of cheesecloth, a 1-gallon nursery, can a fountain pump with tubing. A pair of scissors, fishing line about five gallon bucket worth of rock a varying. Is from large to small and plants, your bucket will act as a water reservoir inside your pot. So, let's prep that part. First. You want to take your garden, pump with your tubing and you'll want to feed it up through one of the drain holes in the pot. And you'll see that I've cut little notches out of the bottom of this pot so that when I put it down in this bucket, the water can still easily get in and out. So we'll put this whole pump and pot down into the bucket. You'll see that the tubing and the court of the pump. I have coming out of the same side of the bucket and you want this because usually you'll have your tubing up the back of the waterfall feature and you'll want this to go out the back side of the pot so it works out really nice.

So I'm going to   Under this pot, and with my other hand, I'm going to use get these big rocks and use them. To wedge this pot in place. So it doesn't move around on us. Once the bucket is full with rocks will take the piece of cheesecloth and we'll wrap it around the top and kind of overlap it here where the tubing and the cord are. And we're going to use the fishing line to tie it snug to the pot.

What this does is it allows the water to penetrate through and it keeps all the dirt and muck out of the bucket and that way the pump won't get plugged. You'll see that I overestimated on the amount of cheese cloth I needed. So, I'm just going to take my scissors and cut it up. The side of the pot, just a little ways.

Now that we've got the reservoir all done for the sound. We're just going to lift this whole thing and put it right inside of our Pops.

Once you've got the reservoir sitting inside the pot, you want to fill the remaining area with soil.

You want a champ in your soil and you'll want to make sure that the level of the soil is below, both the pot and the bucket I've turned the pots. So that the back is facing me and we'll go ahead and start planting. I've chosen a loop in since we're doing a rock waterfall type feature. I want it to look kind of mountain ask. So we'll take the loop and out of the pot, and I'm going to have to rough. This root ball up quite a lot because I've only got about this much area to plant in in this root. Ball is pretty big, but we can do it. That should be about enough. You've taken that down to quite a skinny root ball. Plants, are more resilient than we give him credit for a lot of the times.

It just perfectly. Next, we're going to use a Mildred phase rainbow Sage. I'm just going to plant this right in front of the Lupin. We're going to have to take off some of this one's root ball. Two.

Cut it right down in there. Next, I've got a four pack of my favorite color petunia. These are called Blue. Daddy's. I'm just going to pop one of them out and I'm going to plant it right in front of the stage.

Okay, so we're going to move on from this side to the other. We're going to leave a little block with space open for our rocks. Next is an ARP Rosemary, squeeze the root ball a little bit so we can fit it in there.

Now, we'll go ahead and finish with the rest of these petunias.

Now that we're done with the planting, we're going to go ahead and start on our water feature. These are the Rocks were going to use for our water feature. I've chosen a lot of Flat Rocks because they stack really nicely. This part can take a little patience. Sometimes you have to remove the rocks and start again and manipulate them until it works and looks how you want it to. So I'm just going to work on stacking these in front and behind this tube. And what I want to do is make sure the tubes kind of run and toward the back and what

Do any end is bend it forward and have rocks on top of it. And so the water will go down the other rocks, stacked there.

I put it quite a few rocks in here. You might need some of your medium sized rocks to fill in the gaps. So I'm going to pull some of those out.

You may find that your tubing is a little long and you can cut it when you get your rocks tactile, you like.

I think I've got the Rocks the way that I like them. So now I'm going to take my smaller gravel and I'll fill in any little holes that I might have left.

We're almost done. As I was planting this up. I thought that it might look pretty to add some branches, some height in the back behind the Rocks. So I have a Scarlet, curls Willow Tree in my backyard and when you cut a few branches off, and we'll just guide them in behind The Rock. We can fill our Reservoir with water. Now. I can see through the back underneath the rocks, my bucket underneath there. The reservoir is full. So, now we're going to plug it in and see if it works.

 Yep, it looks good.

I have a few tips for you. When you get ready to plant up your container. First of all, you want to double-check that your pump works. Even if it's brand-new, take it out of the box, plug it in. Make sure you can hear some noise and make sure it works. You do not want to get this thing. Plan it up and find out at that point that your pump isn't working. Trust me. The second thing is, you may want to think about planting this in the spot. You're going to keep it. It gets really heavy when it's full of rocks and water. The third thing you want to check is how the water is running. You want to make sure that the water isn't running off of any of the rocks out past the bucket.

I said I'll run down the soil and it will run out of your pot. It'll make a mess and your bucket will run dry and I can harm or break your pump. Thank you so much for watching the video and I hope you learned something new. As always. There'll be a list of items in the description below that you'll need.
